The Promise
Since LitStack first launched, its mission has been simple but steadfast: to provide honest, insightful, in-depth, and sometimes irreverent book reviews, written by writers who write fiction. We’ve never been about the hype or the best-seller lists just for the sake of lists. We’re about hearing what a writer finds in the soul of another writer’s story—helping you navigate the endless sea of titles to find exactly what you should read.
We’re taking this holiday time to recharge our creative batteries. Think of it as the white space between sections that heightens anticipation for the next part of the story. We’ll see you early in 2026.
When we come back, we’ll be bringing the same passion for literature that has fueled us for over a decade, refreshed and ready to tackle the next generation of great writing.
Support for Independent Bookstores
In a world of one-click shipping and algorithmic recommendations, independent bookstores remain the beating heart of the literary world. They aren’t just retail spaces; they are curated sanctuaries where the shelves reflect the soul of the community rather than a corporate spreadsheet. When you walk into an indie bookstore, you aren’t just a consumer; you’re a guest in a space built by people who genuinely love the written word.
Supporting local booksellers is an investment in your own neighborhood’s culture. These shops provide a platform for debut authors, host the readings that spark lifelong friendships, and offer that hidden gem recommendation you’d never find on a best-seller list. Every purchase helps keep a physical space open for discovery, conversation, and quiet reflection.
Beyond the cultural impact, there is a tangible economic one: a significantly higher percentage of your money stays within your local economy when you buy from an independent shop compared to a national chain or online giant. While we takes an intermission until 2026, we encourage you to wander into your local indie, get lost in the aisles, and ask a bookseller for their favorite under-the-radar title. They are the guardians of the stories we love, and they deserve our loyalty.
We’re on Bookshop!
Supporting independent bookstores doesn’t have to mean leaving your house—especially when you use LitStack on Bookshop.org.
While our main site is on vacation until 2026, our presence on Bookshop.org remains a living, breathing resource for your next great read. Think of it as our digital shop window where our 14 years of expertise are organized into curated shelves. When you buy a book through our Bookshop profile, you’re doing two things at once: you’re following our recommendations for what you should read, supporting our freelance writers, and most importantly, funneling vital financial support directly to local, independent booksellers.
How it works is simple but impactful: Bookshop.org is a B-Corp with a mission to help indies thrive in the age of e-commerce. Every purchase made through the Bookshop.org affiliate shop contributes to a profit-sharing pool that is distributed to over 2,500 independent bookstores. You get the convenience of online shopping and home delivery, but the profit goes to the shops that make our literary culture so vibrant—not to a corporate giant.
Even while we’re away, our lists are there to guide you—from Recs and Shoutouts to our Spotlights. It’s the easiest way to keep the spirit of honest, irreverent, and insightful reviewing alive while directly protecting the future of your favorite local book nook.
