Our Favorite Fictional Friends

Anne of Green Gables

Being an Air Force brat I moved around quite a bit in my early years. Books were my best friends whom I never had to depart. I don’t exactly remember how old I was when I first read Anne of Green Gables, but I do remember immediately thinking Anne and I were kindred spirits.

Anne was new to Avonlea and had to accommodate to a new home and surroundings; so was I. She was a bit of a clutz; so am I. She loved to get lost in a book; so did I. She loved creating scenarios and imagining fantastic adventures; so did I and I always pulled my sister along with me. With all this in common, I knew that if Anne were real, we’d be best friends getting in all sorts of troubles with each other.
